Waffles and Waffle Sauce
THIS WAFFLE SAUCE IS A CLASSIC MENNONITE TREAT AND THESE WAFFLES ARE SO EASY TO MAKE!
Serves 8
Waffle Batter:
4 large Eggs 4 cups Buttermilk 1/2 cup Oil 4 cups Flour 4 tsp Baking powder 2 tsp Baking soda 1 tsp Salt Waffle Sauce: 1 cup Sugar 1/3 cup Cornstarch 1 1/2 tsp Salt 2 cups Milk 2 cups Cream 1 tsp Vanilla |
Batter Directions:
1) Heat a waffle iron. 2) Combine dry ingredients in a large bowl. 3) Add eggs, buttermilk and oil. Mix well. 4) Lightly grease waffle iron with oil or cooking spray. 5) Ladle batter evenly into iron and bake until brown and crispy. 6) Serve hot with waffle sauce. Sauce Directions: 1) Combine 1 cup cream with the sugar, cornstarch, salt in a bowl. 2) Heat the remaining milk/cream in a large glass bowl in the microwave (or a double boiler). 2) When the 3 cups of milk/cream is hot add the sugar mixture, stir and continue to heat till thick. Beware, this can boil over in the microwave! 3)Check and stir often. 4) Add vanilla to finish. |
